Part of me knew this would be the final New Threads album as we were making it. Rising tensions as Wilma released led to Eric leaving the band, and a frustration with the local live scene resulted in us retiring completely from live performances. Unhappy with how the success of "Alone, Leave Me" failed to capitalize with the subsequent record, there was a sense of dread and worry going into this. And to make things worse, we were nearly evicted from our apartment trying to record it, leading us to a storage unit to set up our space. But within this unit we found life, and a new voice began to emerge; one that was less interested in the party rock of NEW THREADS and Felonious Wilma and one that was more inspired by the likes of Santana, Grateful Dead, and Steely Dan. We took on free improvisation for the first time in the studio, we dabbled in disco, and tackled progressive rock in that unit. In many ways, this was the thesis for what Free Rock would become.
